A renaissance masterpiece and an architectural icon

In a final attempt to prolong the summer, Geoff and Rory head to Italy to look at what is arguably the most influential house built during the Renaissance and one of the most iconic buildings in architectural history… Andrea Palladio’s magnificent ‘Villa Rotonda’.

The villa is not only exceptionally beautiful in its own right - from its setting atop a hill to its symmetry and proportions - but has proven to be the inspiration for dozens of buildings around the world, including several English country houses (see images below).
