Ep. 43 | Harvest Special Part I - Walled Kitchen Gardens

With Giles Godfrey of Keythorpe Hall and Walled Garden

In the first of our two-part harvest special, we discuss all things kitchen gardens. We are joined by Giles Godfrey from Keythorpe Hall in Leicestershire, who has revived the house’s walled garden over the past decade.

Walled kitchen gardens at English country houses date back to the late medieval period but became prominent during the 17th to 19th centuries. These enclosed spaces, typically brick or stone-walled, serve as protected environments for growing fruits, vegetables, and herbs, providing fresh produce year-round. They also provide seasonal cutting flowers for use in the house.
