In honour of the Edinburgh Festival - and the Fringe - we have decided to do a two-part special on Edinburgh, focusing on two important royal residences that bookend the Royal Mile.
In this episode we discuss Edinburgh Castle, which has played a prominent role in Scottish history. It has at various times been used as a royal residence, a prison, a treasury, a defensive fortress and a military garrison.
